Understanding Sexual Harassment
Being the victim of Sexual Harassment can destroy a career. There’s no place for that type of behavior, and there’s certainly no place for that kind of behavior in the workforce.
As an employee, you are covered by a complex and often confusing array of legal rights under federal and state laws.
According to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), sexual harassment claims fall into two categories:
- Quid Pro Quo – where a supervisor or someone in an authority position requests sex or a sexual relationship in exchange for favors such as a promotion or raise, or to avoid punishment at work or loss of employment.
- Hostile Workplace Environment – where the victim is required to tolerate inappropriate behavior or conduct such as demeaning or sexual photographs, jokes, or threats that create an intimidating and offensive work environment.
