Matt Ghio

Managing Attorney-St. Louis Office

Being able to help the people of St. Louis means a lot to me. I want to help people from my city go get some justice, and find the attorneys that can help them accomplish that.”

About

Matt Ghio is a native Memphian, a graduate of Christian Brothers High School (1987), but has lived in St. Louis since 1987, which he now calls home with his wife Laurie, and their daughters Holland and Lia.   We also have three four legged members of our family:  Reuben, Max and Ruby.  They are three usually well behaved standard poodles.  They haven’t met Archie yet, but the meet and greet is coming.

Matt received his law degree, in 1994 from Saint Louis University and his Honors A.B. in History and Art History, magna cum laude, in 1991 from Saint Louis University. He received the David Grant Clinic Award for his work in the civil clinic during law school. Matt is admitted to practice law in the State of Missouri, as well as U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Missouri, Western District of Missouri and the Federal and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Matt has exclusively represented workers since 1996 in many areas of employment law. Prior to private practice, Matt served as a law clerk in 1994 to the Honorable James H. Allen, United States Magistrate Judge, Western District of Tennessee, and in 1995 as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert G. Dowd, Jr., Missouri Court of Appeals – Eastern District.  Matt was an associate with Van Amburg, Chackes, Carlson & Spritzer, LLP from 1996 to 2003, working with the Hon. Lisa S. Van Amburg (Ret.) as her associate, and was a partner with Chackes, Carlson, Spritzer & Ghio, LLP from 2003 to 2008.  Since then he was a partner in Ghio & Desilets, LLP and then the managing member of the Ghio Law Firm LLC.

As of January 1, 2024, Matt was proud to merge his law firm with The Crone Law Firm PLC.   With our team of Alex, Phil and Kayla working in St. Louis from our offices in Tower Grove and the CWE, we’re excited about bringing justice for our clients.

He has successfully represented clients in litigation ranging from failure to pay overtime, failure to promote, failure to hire, failure to pay sales commissions, sexual harassment, assault, pregnancy, age, race, disability, family and medical leave (FMLA), and national origin discrimination, as well as wrongful discharge, retaliation, whistleblowing and public policy wrongful discharge matters for at-will employees. Matt will represent clients before litigation in front of the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

One of the pillars of The Crone Law Firm PLC is service.  Matt is involved in several community organizations, including Landmarks Association of St. Louis, Inc., the Justine Petersen Housing and Reinvestment Corporation, and the South Grand Community Improvement District. He received the 2005 President’s Award from the Landmarks Association of St. Louis. He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).
